A coaching team from the Mainz 05 Football School, led by former 05 player Jörg Conrad, experienced a very eventful week in South Africa. The visit included training sessions and coaching workshops with the local football development partner, Prestige Football Development Academy, in Johannesburg, alongside numerous other activities. In Pretoria, over 40 children participated in a unique training session with popular influencer Cellular_jnr, observed by former South African national player Phil Evans.
At the Bundesliga partner Amandla Safe-Hub in Alexandria, more than 100 children had the opportunity to train with the Mainz 05 Football School coaching team. Following an inspiring training session, Mainz 05 Academy Chief Scout Nico Sahm gave a digital lecture on successful scouting at the Bruchweg, captivating the many coaches and players in attendance. The lecture was the perfect conclusion to an unforgettable day.
The highlight of the week was a training session in Diepslot, where over 250 children engaged in training, enjoyed a freestyle show, and shared a meal while interacting with the Mainz 05 coaching team and Cellular_jnr. "We are delighted with the excellent reception of these initiatives and the overwhelmingly positive feedback. In December, we will welcome a large group from South Africa to Mainz, where they will experience the unique atmosphere of a Bundesliga match during our home game against Bayern Munich and get to know our club and city. We look forward to many more initiatives in the coming months," said Jonas Revers, Head of Partner Management and Internationalization at Mainz 05.
