05ers secure 13-goal win in first pre-season friendly

Mainz’s opening game of pre-season ends in convincing victory

An energetic and goal-hungry FSV side got their preparations for the new season off to the best possible start with a 13-0 win over affiliate club Langenlonsheim. Returnee Paul Nebel and new signing Armindo Sieb were among the goalscorers. In addition to allowing the 05ers to build up match fitness, the game had a carnival atmosphere, with the hosts having won the opportunity to face Mainz in a draw among over 200 M05 partner clubs. The sellout crowd of more than 2,000 fans were treated to a special occasion which will no doubt live long in the memory.

Henriksen pleased with win

“It was a good game for us, in which everyone was able to play 45 minutes and nobody picked up an injury. It was important for the players to do some running, and it was also nice to see so many fans here after such a long time. We’ve got a lot of work ahead of us in the coming weeks, because we’ll have plenty of running to do in the Bundesliga. That will be the basis of our success,” said head coach Bo Henriksen after the game.

The squad will return to training at Bruchweg on Monday morning, where they will host Basara Mainz next Friday (18:00 CEST).
