Mainz 05 0-2 Leipzig
Niko Bungert: “We had very good spells against a great team and were well in the game until near the end. Leipzig showcased their composure and individual quality on a couple of occasions, which we then suffered from as a result. After that, they managed the game and didn’t take many risks. We got into attacking positions fairly often, but Leipzig remained very compact and in the end we often lacked the final pass or our shots were blocked. Against a top team, more needs to go to plan than it did for us today.”
Phillipp Mwene: “Xavi was simply just being Xavi for the first goal and then for the second goal we needed to defend better at the far post. We knew that, which is why it’s all the more annoying. We were good at the play into their penalty area today, we had more possession than usual and won the majority of the duels, but Leipzig defended so well that we couldn’t get in behind them even after trying time and again. To still be winless at home is hard to take. There are a few positives from today, but we definitely have to do better.”
Moritz Jenz: “We played well and came out on top in many aspects as the stats show. But Leipzig were efficient. Nevertheless, we kept our heads high and the crowd never died down, so we have to build on that this coming Friday. It’s good to have another game coming up right away.”
