"We need to keep doing our homework"

Post-match reaction from the 05ers following the win away in Mönchengladbach

Gladbach 1-3 Mainz 05

Nadiem Amiri: “That third goal came about from some nice play and arrived at just the right time to help settle things down again. We gave it our all today, as we did in Leipzig last weekend. It wasn’t easy to begin with and we repeatedly gave away possession but the way we went up a gear was fantastic. Each match is like playing in a final right now and everyone could see how much we wanted it today. We refocused again after the fun of the Rosenmontag parade and said enough with the celebrations. The way in which we were so switched on today is a real credit to the lads for the work put in during the week and is something quite indescribable. I love these boys. I am convinced that we will be celebrating come the end of the season.”

Paul Nebel: “I am happy to have scored again but even more so that we got the three points in the bag. There were times today in which we had to sit deep and withstand some pressure but Gladbach weren’t able to break us down too often and we looked good going forward. Our performance was much better after the opening goal, especially in terms of our play in possession. We want to keep winning games and for that we need to keep doing our homework.”

Niko Bungert: “It’s always nice when you win on a Friday night and then can sit back and watch the other games on Saturday and Sunday with the pressure off. Nevertheless, we will press on from here with the same focus and determination as we have demonstrated up until this point. Each win in the Bundesliga requires you to work hard for it and Gladbach also put up a good fight this evening, but the team did really well to combat that.”
