Mainz 05 - Gladbach 1:1 (0:0)
Niko Bungert: “We forced the opener and were really good value for our lead. If you put the final three or four minutes to one side, we were excellent throughout. The equaliser was their only chance until stoppage time. I think there was a lot we can be happy with; we had them pegged back at times and didn’t give much away in defence. We needed Robin at the end, but we know that we can count on him. All in all, it’s a performance that we can build on.”
Nadiem Amiri: “It’s disappointing. I’m more annoyed than happy, even though it was a really good performance. We showed that side of Mainz again that everyone knows. We had plenty of chances, we played great football and put our bodies on the line. We deserved to win the game over the 90 minutes. Our energy levels understandably dropped off at the end considering how much work we put in.”
Robin Zentner: “I could have done without those nervy last few minutes, but it was very important not to end up on the losing side after dominating for 85 minutes. That ending was a consequence of us wanting to go for the win ourselves, just as we had played for much of the match. We had good chances that maybe we should have done better with, but it was a step in the right direction nonetheless, and one we can build on.”
