“Extremely frustrating” despite good performance

Reaction from the MEWA ARENA

FSVs solid performance against Eintracht Frankfurt went unrewarded ultimately, as Eintrachts late equaliser left the result feeling far more like a defeat after the final whistle for all those associated with the club. The players said after the game that errors need to be analysed, but they all also agreed that the performance can be built upon.

Reaction from Martin Schmidt, Phillipp Mwene and Dominik Kohr

Martin Schmidt: “It feels like a defeat due to the late equaliser whilst we had a man advantage. Therefore, its extremely frustrating. We failed to find a second goal beforehand. It would have been a quiet ending to the game if we had done so. Something like that can always happen in defence, whether you have a man more or a man less. The positive thing is that Phillipp Mwene had a great game on his return to the team.”

Phillipp Mwene: “We were just three, four minutes short of making it the perfect comeback for me. I think we can build on our performance, but we should have been more dominant towards the end when we were also a man up. It was still nice to be able to start today. We all got stuck in and showed what makes us a strong team. It’s tough to explain how we conceded the equaliser afterwards, we definitely could have done better to shut them down before they were able to break into the penalty area. We did well at keeping Frankfurt’s attack at bay prior to that. I hope that I’ll be ready to play the full 90 minutes next week again.”

Dominik Kohr: “It’s frustrating because we played really well and were able to put our game plan into effect. What’s even more frustrating is that we didn’t manage to see the result through despite being a man up at home, or that we didn’t manage to make it 2-0. I think the decisive factor was us not being strong enough on the counter. Frankfurt then managed to equalise with just one chance at the end of the game, so we will have to analyse that tomorrow. We wanted to show a reaction to the Union game today, which we managed to do in training this past week and we were able to build on it today.”
