FSV drawn against FC Bayern in the DFB-Pokal

Second-round clash with record winners to take place at the end of October – Heidel: “Anything is possible, especially at home”

1. FSV Mainz 05 will face FC Bayern in the second round of the DFB-Pokal. The draw took place on Sunday afternoon at the German Football Museum in Dortmund. FSV can look forward to a sold-out MEWA ARENA at the end of October, with the game to take place on either Tuesday, 29th or Wednesday, 30th.

Mainz’s board member for sport Christian Heidel commented: “It’s obviously a big game for the second round. We’ve shown in the past how difficult we can make life for FC Bayern at a packed MEWA ARENA – anything is possible, especially at home. I’m pleased for us and the fans that we’ve got an attractive draw, and we’ll do all we can to reach the round of 16 again. It will be our fourth game against Bayern since 1999 in the cup – it’s time we finally beat them. We believe we have a chance and will go into the game full of belief.”

The exact date and time for the game, as well as ticket details, will be confirmed in due course.
