Gabriel Vidović joins FSV
Attacker joins on initial season-long loan deal
Gabriel Vidović has joined 1. FSV Mainz 05 to bolster the 05ers frontline. The 20-year-old has been sent on loan to the Bruchweg by FC Bayern München for the remainder of the 2024/25 season. Vidović has made four Bundesliga appearances for FC Bayern (one assist) in addition to gathering continental experience last season. The attacker played for Croatian league and cup winners Dinamo Zagreb in 2023/24, bagging seven goals and notching three assists in 27 games. He also played in nine UEFA Conference League games for the Croatian side, scoring once. The season before that, Vidović made 25 Eredivisie appearances for Vitesse Arnheim, with four goals to his name. The newest member of the 05ers has played at every youth level for Croatia from the U17s upwards and currently represents his country’s U21 side.
“Gabriel Vidović is immensely talented. He’s a great player who is incredibly technically gifted and intelligent. He can be deployed in a number of different positions across the front line, as well as in attacking midfield. Despite his young age, he has a lot of experience in top European leagues,” stated Mainz board member for sport Christian Heidel.
Gabriel Vidović said, “I had really good talks with the sporting director and the head coach. I immediately got a good feeling. At Mainz 05, the conditions are ideal for my sporting development. It was also a conscious decision to join a Bundesliga team. I’ve actually been to the MEWA ARENA before – I played for FC Bayern here and felt the incredible atmosphere created by the Mainz fans. After losing here with Bayern back then, I’m looking forward to celebrating a lot of home wins with Mainz 05.”
