Moritz Jenz joins Mainz 05 on loan
25-year-old centre-back arrives on season-long loan from VfL Wolfsburg
1. FSV Mainz 05 are delighted to welcome a new addition to their back line, with Moritz Jenz joining the club on loan from VfL Wolfsburg for the 2024/25 season. The 25-year-old centre-back arrives at Bruchweg with a wealth of Bundesliga and international experience. Having come through the youth setup at Tennis Borussia Berlin and Fulham FC in England, Jenz began his senior career with FC Lausanne-Sport in the Swiss Super League. A move to FC Lorient in France followed, before a loan spell in the Scottish Premiership with Celtic Glasgow, where the 1.90-metre-tall defender featured six times in the UEFA Champions League. Jenz also has experience in Germany, making a total of 34 competitive appearances in the Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal for FC Schalke 04 and VfL Wolfsburg over the past two seasons.
Mainz 05’s board member for sport Christian Heidel said: “We were looking for a centre-back with Bundesliga experience. Sometimes you have to wait until a door opens – we remained patient and are delighted that Moritz Jenz is now able to come to Mainz. Moritz can play on the left and in the middle of the back line, he’s strong in the air and is also someone who leads by example both on and off the pitch.”
“I’m the kind of player that feeds off of emotions, so it just felt right”
“I had very good talks with the management, particularly Bo Henriksen,” said Moritz Jenz. “He had a real energy about him, and I’m the kind of player that feeds off of emotions, so it just felt right. I’ve already played against Mainz at the MEWA ARENA before and know how special the atmosphere is at the stadium. Now I’m looking forward to playing in front of the 05er fans and having them and that incredible atmosphere behind me.”
