A total of ten Mainz players are currently on international duty. Here is a round-up of those who have been in action already and a preview of their matches to come.

Germany U21 on course for EURO qualification while Weiper also wins

The Germany U21 national team continued their winning run in European Championship qualifying with a 5-1 victory over Israel. Mainz players Armindo Sieb and Paul Nebel both came on as substitutes in the second half. The second qualifier against Estonia is scheduled for Tuesday (kick-off 18:00 CEST). If Germany’s U21s can record another win in this match and Poland, who are second in the table, lose to Bulgaria, their tickets for the 2025 European Championship in Slovakia can be booked early.

Germany were also able to celebrate a win at U20 level at the start of the international break, with 05er Nelson Weiper part of the successful team. After trailing 2-0 to Romania, the Germans were able to turn the game around, eventually emerging 3-2 victors. Weiper played the entirety of the first half. On Tuesday, Germany U20 will face Italy at 16:00 CEST.

Germany U19 and Maxim Dal suffered a 2-1 defeat against Italy. After conceding an early goal, the German team managed to equalise, but the Italians ultimately narrowly prevailed. Dal did not feature in the game. The next opportunity for victory will be against England on Tuesday at 16:30 CEST.

Austria grab a draw but Switzerland remain winless

Phillipp Mwene and Austria managed a draw against Slovenia in the Nations League. The 05ER assisted Konrad Laimer’s goal to make the final score 1-1 and played the whole match. On Monday, Mwene will face his Mainz teammate Andreas Hanche-Olsen and the Norwegian national team at 20:45 CEST.

Switzerland lost their opening game of the Nations League 2-0 against Denmark. Mainz player Silvan Widmer started the game, but was substituted in the 65th minute. He did not feature at all in the 4-1 defeat to Spain.

Nikolas Veratschnig won 2-0 with the Austria U21 side against Bosnia and Herzegovina. The FSV player was on the field for the full 90 minutes. Their second match is against England and will take place on Monday at 20:45 CEST.

South Korea and Norway both endure goalless draws but Croatia U21 are victorious

The South Korea national team, with 05er Jae-sung Lee in their ranks, drew 0-0 with Palestine in their World Cup qualifying match. Lee played almost an hour of the contest. The second match on the schedule for South Korea is against Oman, taking place on Tuesday at 16:00 CEST.

The match-up between Andreas Hanche-Olsen’s Norway side and Kazakhstan also ended goalless. The Mainz defender played the full 90 minutes of the 0-0 draw and will face-off with Mwene on Monday when his team play against Austria at 20:45 CEST.

Gabriel Vidović was part of a successful EURO qualifying performance for Croatia U21, winning 2-1 against the Faroe Islands. The 05er was on the pitch for nearly 70 minutes and next faces Portugal’s U21 side on Tuesday at 19:00 CEST.
