“No excuse for how we reacted”
The 05ers’ reaction following the lost away at VfB
Robin Zentner: “It was a good away performance from us until we went 1-0 down, but we need to put the ball in the back of the net. We didn’t react well after conceding – we were too passive and up until half time I didn’t have the feeling that we still believed that we could get a result. We’ve suffered a lot of setbacks recently, but that still can’t happen. You can always score, so there’s no excuse for how we reacted and wallowed in self-pity. We need to keep going and fight even harder to score goals. Only positive results can help us, which we need to work for. We lost our heads after conceding – we can’t really explain it.”
Jonny Burkardt: “We started well and didn’t just have one good chance. We were prepared to suffer defensively and consistently cover a lot of ground against a strong opponent. Then the goal came, which can’t happen. We were then glad that half time came. It was tidy again after the break, but it wasn’t enough. We’ve got big problems dealing with setbacks. The goal we conceded broke us and our heads go down in these moments. That’s why we are in this situation. It hurts to see this happening. I understand everyone who’s currently saying: ‘I no longer have any hope.’ We need to pick ourselves up using the positive aspects from the first half, and keep fighting. I’m really sorry for our fans.”

Martin Schmidt: “It was a game that fits into the picture of the last few weeks. There were good and passive phases. Unfortunately, we almost gave the game away in additional time in the first half. We should’ve taken the lead before then – you need to do that to pick something up here. However, we can’t go any further without points. Sadly, we collapsed for a moment following the goal. We lost our attitude and became passive. We’ll sit down together tomorrow and analyse the game clearly. It’s clear that we can’t keep playing like this and need to change things together.”
