He’s been an 05er for 17 years, won the German U19 league title in 2009, has been a Bundesliga player since 2012 and, with 266 appearances, is the record appearance holder for 1. FSV Mainz 05 in the top-flight. Stefan Bell has truly seen it all during his time with the club. And there’s still plenty more for him to see, with the 32-year-old signing a new deal which will see him remain with the club for a further year.
“Stefan Bell is a stalwart of the club and of our Bundesliga team. We are convinced that he can continue to give us an important presence not only on the pitch, but also as a personality in the dressing room. It gives us a good feeling to know we have him in our squad,” said sporting director Christian Heidel.
The man himself says: “My attachment to Mainz 05 is huge, that goes without saying. I had a difficult second half of the season due to my illness. But now I’ve overcome that and I’m optimistic about my future. I want to get stuck in again, even if I still have a way to go. I’m pleased that the club is backing me on that journey.”
