“Tom is a typical Mainz 05 transfer. He’s a youth international, fully identifies with our philosophy and is excited for the next step of his career here. Tom’s style of play and mentality will fit right in here at FSV and he will be a great addition to our squad,” said sporting director Martin Schmidt.

Mainz head coach Bo Svensson said: “Tom has lots of experience at the highest level despite his age. He knows he has more potential and wants to keep on getting better, which we want to assist him with. The fact that both parties believe that Mainz 05 is the right club for him is a good basis for a successful stay in Mainz for Tom.”

“I was impressed by the conversations I had with Mainz 05 and with Bo Svensson in particular. I want to keep on developing and perform well – I’m at the perfect place to do just that. I know a few of my teammates already, such as Jonathan Burkardt, Nelson Weiper and Sepp van den Berg, and I can’t wait to train with my new team and play in front of the Mainz fans,” said Krauß.
