Holstein Kiel 0-3 Mainz 05
Sporting director Niko Bungert: “We had high hopes for today and didn’t want to pass up this chance to gain importance confidence as well as points. From the off, you could tell we didn’t want to return home from Kiel empty-handed. The team showed a great deal of commitment. We played our football, but also defended well together and stayed alert for the full 90 minutes, never allowing Kiel to get a foothold in the game.”
Paul Nebel: “We played really well today. There have already been some very good performances from us in recent weeks, for example against Dortmund before the international break. We were perhaps most dominant in this game, though. We didn’t let anything get to us and controlled possession, remaining free from mistakes. We set out to get the three points and did just that because we didn’t let up after scoring the goals. We also decided at half-time that we would go for the third goal and not just sit back. It was a deserved victory.”
Danny da Costa: “I am familiar with playing at centre-back position from my youth team days in Leverkusen, when I always played there. I have always been determined to give it my all and do everything I could in each training session to get the chance to play, so it’s nice to be out on that pitch right now. I'll try to continue in the same vein to solidify my place and to keep having fun.”
“We’re playing very well at the moment. We need to keep focused and keep believing that what we are doing is right as well as capitalising on the momentum we have right now. The team showed great concentration today. The important thing was that we were very effective after losing the ball, not allowing any counter-attacks or scoring opportunities. That’s why we were so dominant today.”
