“We want to give a bold performance”

The 05ers clash with Gladbach on Friday night

A Friday night under the floodlights awaits FSV as they prepare for their upcoming clash with Borussia Mönchengladbach (kick-off 20:30 CEST). After falling to a 2-0 defeat at the hands of RB Leipzig last time out, the match against the Foals presents Mainz with another chance to clinch their first home win of the season.

Mainz head coach Bo Henriksen spoke in his press conference about…

…the squad for Friday: “Dominik Kohr, Nelson Weiper and Niki Veratschnig all trained individually this week and Phillipp Mwene has had a bit of a cold. We hope to have all of them available for the Gladbach game though.”

…Danny da Costa’s peformance at centre-back: “Danny played well in the game against Leipzig after not being included in the starting line-up for over seven months. Playing at centre-back is nothing unfamiliar to him though, but whether he will play there again tomorrow is yet to be decided.”

…the long-awaited home victory: “To win against Gladbach, we need to be more efficient and show more courage. We’ve picked up eight points in seven games but only one of those at home. That’s definitely something we’ve got to improve on. We need to show that we can also win at home.”

…the work on set-pieces in training this week: “The most important thing for us is that we know what we want to work on. On Wednesday, we focused on set-pieces and so trained behind closed doors as to not give anything away and then today’s aim is to build on that session. Last season, we were incredibly good from dead ball situations and so want to get back to that again.”

…the upcoming opponent Borussia Mönchengladbach: “We’re up against a very good team that also looks to play in the half-spaces. The first half performance when we last played against Gladbach was outstanding, but unfortunately we took our foot off the gas after the break. The most important thing that we want to do on Friday is give a bold performance.”
