“We will build Robin back up”

FSV reaction from Leverkusen

Robin Zentner: “I was just expecting a cross with the first goal, but of course the second Leverkusen goal annoys me all the more. I saw the shot relatively well, but my hands were maybe an inch too low. We put in a good away performance – there’s no doubt about that. However, it’s extremely bitter when you lose here in such fashion and don’t take anything with you. It annoys me immensely that I was responsible for that. We need to build on the way the team played, fought and ran for each other – that needs to give us courage. I don’t feel that right now, but hopefully things will feel different when I wake up tomorrow.”

Sporting director Martin Schmidt: “It was a good, courageous performance in many phases of the game. We survived the quarter of an hour before half time when Leverkusen applied pressure. Unfortunately, we then gave the opposition a helping hand. Of course it’s a shame when you have a chance to pinch a point against a top opponent. We had two or three opportunities to cancel out the goals conceded. Robin has saved us so often already this season. He’ll do the same in the next few games. There’s absolutely no blame on him – he even kept us in the game in the first half with his saves. We will build him up again for the home game against Mönchengladbach. Everyone is allowed to be sad today, but we’ll focus on the good performance from tomorrow. We showed that we can compete against a team like that.”

Anthony Caci: “We knew that Leverkusen are a great team and we left everything out on the pitch. Therefore, it’s naturally a shame that we lost the game in this manner. We had good chances that you have to take against teams like that. Sadly, we didn’t manage to do that. We’re now focusing on the next game and we need to try to pick up three points at home and give everything against Mönchengladbach.”
