05ers’ EURO 2024 campaigns kick off

Silvan Widmer and Switzerland start their tournament on Saturday; Philipp Mwene’s Austria play on Monday

Germany is ablaze with European Championship fever, with the DFB team set to open the tournament against Scotland on Friday night (21:00 CEST). But Germany isn’t the only nation FSV fans will be keeping their eye on, as 05ers Silvan Widmer and Philipp Mwene will also be hoping to get their tournaments off to a flying start in the next few days. Captain Widmer will take on Hungary with Switzerland on Saturday (15:00 CEST), while Phillipp Mwene and Austria have to wait until Monday for their opening game, when they face France (21:00 CEST).

Austria and Switzerland met in a friendly in St. Gallen last weekend, and Widmer scored the equaliser as his side earned a 1-1 draw at the Kybunpark. Both 05ers played the full 90 minutes for their countries, and so should stand an excellent chance of starting the first game of the group stage.
