05ers in Marbella: A relaxed and fun start

Siewert looking forward to “intensive work” / Two sessions a day and a friendly on Saturday

The 05ers started their training camp in Marbella well on Tuesday. Pleasant temperatures and the Andalusian sun welcomed Mainz to Málaga Airport in the afternoon, before they travelled to the ‘Kempinski Hotel Bahía’ in Estepona by bus. After a long day of travel, it was important to have fun during the first training session at the Marbella Football Center, which lasted just over an hour. All 27 of the players who travelled were present on the pitch and on the ball.

Getting the legs moving with intensive days ahead

After this relaxed start, FSV have intensive days ahead of them until Sunday. “Today, we firstly had to get back into the swing of things after our arrival so we can start tomorrow well-recovered. It was important to get the legs moving again today and we had to have some fun,” emphasised Siewert, who mentioned that he is looking forward to “intensive work” in Marbella this week. After a warm-up session and a five-against-two game, he allowed his players to take part in a large football tennis tournament.

On Wednesday, there will be two full training sessions for the first time, initially on the training pitch at 10:00 CET and then an athleticism session in the afternoon. On Saturday (12:30 CET), the 05ers face a strong friendly opponent in the shape of Dutch giants Feyenoord. Siewert wants to make the most of the time left until the first game of the second half of the season against VfL Wolfsburg on Saturday, 13th January (15:30 CET at the MEWA ARENA). “It will be a short and compact preparation time, after which we want to start against Wolfsburg with a good squad and raring to go.”
