“Approaching every game like it’s a final”

“Rebuild trust” – reactions from the 05ers from the MEWA ARENA

Martin Schmidt: “It was a different sort of game to last week, fearless and aggressive, passionate, but unfortunately not enough. Too little to win, too hectic and too imprecise – nothing was likely to come out of that. The slapstick goal we conceded was a bitter pill to swallow, but there were still 88 minutes left to play, and maybe nervousness played a part as well. Today should have been the starting shot in our race for survival, but it was wide of the mark. On Wednesday we have another chance. There is a three-way battle at the foot of the table. To come through that, you need wins.”

Silvan Widmer: “We have enough quality to win games, the chances were there, but the game didn’t go our way. The goal we conceded was a complete fluke. We put a shift in, but it gets a bit tougher every week. We’re desperate for a bit of success. Luck hasn’t been on our side in too many games; the ball just doesn’t want to go in at the moment. We’re approaching every game like it’s a final.”

Nadiem Amiri: “It was tough today, but even so we had a good game in which we had plenty of chances. The goal at the start was tough to take, because the stadium was full of life today. I think I brought something to the team today. Nevertheless, in my view we can build on today – everyone has to rebuild their trust in themselves. You can see that a lot of the players have a bit of the yips at the moment. I’d like to have some influence and help – we have to stay positive. For the moment, we have to get plenty of sleep, eat well and find the back of the net on Wednesday.”
