Bo Henriksen extends contract at Mainz 05

The 05ers’ head coach is here to stay until 2027: “It’s simply amazing how happy we can make so many people here with what we do”

Henriksen has had a massive impact on the club since his appointment in February of last year.

1. FSV Mainz 05 have reached an agreement with Bo Henriksen for the early extension of the head coach’s contract, which will see the 49-year-old remain at the club until 2027. After just a year in office, Henriksen has managed to steer the club away from the scrap that is the relegation battle and towards the European qualification spots at the upper end of the Bundesliga table. When the Dane took over in February 2024, FSV had just 12 points on the board and sat second from bottom in the standings. After sensationally avoiding the drop last term, FSV now have 31 points to their name after 19 matchdays, which is the club’s second-best-ever tally at this stage of a top-flight campaign.

Board member for sport Christian Heidel:  “Bo Henriksen and Mainz 05 have managed to turn around what was a very tricky situation for the club from a sporting standpoint. This has been achieved in collaboration with the team through playing courageous football that has shown a lot of belief. Bo’s passionate coaching style has ensured that the whole club and city have been swept up in his journey as coach so far. He fits us perfectly here in Mainz and we are very pleased that he will continue in his role for years to come.”

“I knew from my first day here that it’s a special place to be. I’m not just part of a club, but part of a whole city. You can sense the passion, pride, faith and belief in the team in every corner of Mainz. It’s simply amazing how happy we can make so many people here with what we do. It’s been a crazy year with so many emotions – I’m happy that our journey will continue for another two and a half years together,” said head coach Bo Henriksen.
