Bruchweg gripped by EUROs fever

Slovakia national team training in Mainz for the European Championship

Hosts Germany will kick off EURO 2024 against Scotland in Munich on Friday night (21:00 CEST), but the anticipation at Bruchweg ahead of the tournament has already been at fever pitch for several days. Preparations to welcome Slovakia to Mainz began in earnest last week, and the Falcons trained for the first time at FSV’s historic home on Tuesday afternoon. The team will have the next few weeks to make themselves feel right at home, and will be hoping to go deep in the tournament – and extend their stay in doing so.

The guests, who are staying at the Hyatt hotel on the banks of the Rhine, were welcomed by Rhineland-Palatinate minister Michael Ebling, his successor as Lord Mayor of Mainz Nino Haase, Mayor Günter Beck and 05 President Stefan Hofmann.

After the initial pleasantries, 400 fans and other curious onlookers had the chance to see the Slovaks in action for the first time as they completed a relaxed, one-hour training session. The squad then signed autographs for the assembled crowd.

Slovakia, who will use Bruchweg as the base for all of their daily training sessions, begin their tournament against Belgium in Frankfurt on Monday evening (18:00 CEST), before facing Ukraine (21st June, 15:00 CEST in Düsseldorf) and Romania (26th June, 18:00 CEST in Frankfurt) in their other group stage fixtures.
