El Ghazi: Mainz 05 to lodge an appeal

1. FSV Mainz 05 will appeal to the Rhineland-Palatinate State Labour Court against the decision made last Friday by the Mainz Labour Court concerning the legal dispute with Anwar El Ghazi as soon as the reasons for the decision are received in writing. 

Dr. Johan-Michel Menke, the specialist employment lawyer from law firm Heuking representing 1. FSV Mainz 05, retorts the grounds for the judgement, which were also outlined in a press release from the tenth chamber of the Mainz Labour Court: “From our perspective, the decision is not comprehensible, given the argument regarding deadlines and the lack of consideration of the overall context. Therefore, we have advised the club to lodge an appeal.” 

The parties are in discussions regarding the consequences of the Mainz Labour Court’s decision for the club in terms of payments to and employment of the player.
