First win in our new home kit

Numerous Zerofivers goals as well as the brand-new 2023/24 home kit were real causes of excitement among the 2,400 spectators in attendance at the Ölbergstadion on Friday night as Mainz 05 played their first friendly of pre-season against partner club SG Gensingen/Grolsheim. Bo Svensson’s side came away clear 16-0 winners against the amateur side. Goals came from Delano Burgzorg (2), Anton Stach, Ludovic Ajorque (2), Ben Bobzien, Anthony Caci, Brajan Gruda (4), Aymen Barbok (2), Danny Schmidt (2) and Dominik Kohr.

Amid the high summer temperatures, Mainz 05 put on a wide range of activities, such as football darts, a penalty challenge and a bouncy castle, whilst the CSR department organised a competition with sustainable prizes up for grabs, all of which help defend against the summer heat.

Bo Svensson had the following to say after the game: “We came away without any injuries, the lads put in a good shift today and reached their running targets. It’s only natural that they were a bit rusty on the ball at the start,” commented the head coach, who also pleased the positive atmosphere “on the brilliant playing surface.” “It was a rather manageable fixture today,” continued the Dane, whose team have their second friendly of pre-season next Friday (19:00 CEST) against fourth-tier side TuS Kobelnz at Stadion Oberwerth. The second week of pre-season will begin with a public training session at Bruchweg on Monday morning (10:00 CEST).
