"On some days the ball just doesn’t want to go between the posts"
Post-match reaction from the 05ers following the draw at home to Kiel

1. FSV MAINZ 05 1-1 HOLSTEIN KIEL
Niko Bungert: “We’re more disappointed with the result today somewhat than we are with the performance since we always expect to secure the three points at home. Our passion was a real positive right from the off until the final whistle. The opening 45 minutes went differently to how we had expected against a high-intensity Kiel side who didn‘t play like someone battling against the drop. Although we found life tough, we did also have some rotten luck on a couple of occasions. We clicked into gear just a bit too late and ultimately it wasn’t quite enough. We gave it our all, especially going forward and, with each team intent on clinching all three points, that made for a lively affair. Despite the fact that we edged things on paper, a draw was a fair result on the whole.”
Paul Nebel: “I really wanted to win this one in front of the home fans. Although we are disappointed, on reflection we could have scored four times in that first half but things just panned out differently and we ended up trailing for a while. Therefore, the fact we come away with a draw is good but we had sights set on all three points. We could have done things better but, at the same time, on some days the ball just simply doesn’t seem to want to go between the posts. Our job now is to analyse the game and draw conclusions before pressing onto the next task.”
Nelson Weiper: “It was obviously great to score. I was pleased about that and I’m feeling much better in myself than at the start of the season. We did have chances in the first half but just couldn’t take them unfortunately. Kiel also played well, though, creating good opportunities on the counter and deservedly went ahead as I see things. The aim for next week is to get back to winning ways in order to remain on target.”
