Nadiem Amiri extends his contract until 2028
“This team and this city are both unique”
Nadiem Amiri has put pen to paper on a long-term deal with 1. FSV Mainz 05. The 27-year-old midfielder, who joined the club in January from German champions Bayer 04 Leverkusen, has signed a two-year contract extension, with his new deal now valid until 2028. So far, Amiri has played 15 games (1 goal, 4 assists) for Mainz and has quickly become a key player for the club. With his experience of over 260 games in the Bundesliga, Europa League, Champions League and for Germany, as well as his individual quality on the pitch, the Ludwigshafen-born man played an important role in the club avoiding relegation.
Board member for sport Christian Heidel: “The signing of Nadiem in the winter provided the team with exactly what we wanted. His creativity and technical ability immediately improved the attacking side of our game and he gave his all for the team and our fans from the very first minute to the final whistle of every game. He played a big part in the successful end to our season and is a key man in our team. Nadiem is a player with international quality and a real team player with a big heart too – as a native of Rhineland-Palatinate, it’s therefore fantastic that Mainz 05 will remain his sporting home for a number of years now.”
Nadiem Amiri on extending his contract:
“This past season was one of the most emotional ones of my career so far. Together with the club, the entire city and our fans, we were able to achieve what many had written off as being impossible. I'm incredibly proud to have played a part in helping us stay up, and I'm already looking forward to continuing to add further chapters to our story. This team and the city are something special and I already cannot wait to make more memories in the Bundesliga at the MEWA ARENA with our fans next season.”
