New signing and returnee in action as Mainz to resume training

The 05ers kick off pre-season with a public session at Bruchweg on Wednesday afternoon

Most of the 05ers’ squad have been back in Mainz since Sunday, and have been undergoing medical and performance tests since then. On Wednesday afternoon at 17:00 CEST, head coach Bo Henriksen and his side will return to Bruchwegstadion for the first time in the 2024/25 season. Although several players have been given a few extra days or weeks to rest after international duty, fans in attendance this afternoon can still look forward to seeing both a new and a familiar face. New signing Armindo Sieb and Paul Nebel, who is returning from a two-year loan at Karlsruher SC, will both go straight into full training.

New signing Nikolas Veratschnig will arrive at Bruchweg on Monday after spending time with the Austria U21 side. Brajan Gruda, Andreas Hanche-Olsen and Jae-sung Lee will begin training in mid-July. It has not yet been confirmed when Phillipp Mwene, whose Austria side were knocked out of EURO 2024 on Tuesday after a 2-1 defeat to Türkiye, and Silvan Widmer, who faces England with Switzerland in the quarter-finals on Saturday, will join up with the team.

Young talents from our U23 side will train with the squad for the time being.
