Jannik Huth extends until 2020
Goalkeeper extends his contract early until 2020
Mainz extended goalkeeper Jannik Huth’s contract that was set to expire in 2017 for three years until 2020 on Friday. The 22-year-old has played for the Zerofivers since he was twelve years old. He has made 31 appearances for the U23s in the 3. Liga in the past two seasons and also been called up to the first team squad for Bundesliga matches on occasion. He has been a regular member of the Germany U21 squad since summer 2015.
“Jannik Huth is a great example of a talented young goalkeeper and the great work that is done in Mainz’s academy. He has made real strides in his development in the past couple of years while playing in the third division and training with the first team,” said sporting director Rouven Schröder.
Head coach Martin Schmidt commented: “Jannik Huth has developed massively in the past few years and has an important role to play as a goalkeeper in the first team. The contract extension shows our faith in him and a way forward in his career.”
Jannik Huth: “Mainz have shown their faith in me by extending my contract until 2020 and I would like to give them something back through my performances. I want to use this chance and fight for a place in the squad. It is a great environment for me in Mainz with all of my friends and family. I feel extremely happy here and I’m looking forward to continuing with the club.”
